Bandits

Bandits are duelists (melee units with 1 Block) with high ATK and HP, but low DEF. Their most common skill, Risk Life, allows them to sacrifice all DEF in return for a large ATK boost. This skill is especially effective against enemy mages, as it doesn't affect how much magic damage the bandit will take.

Their most notable use is versus armored units (armored goblins, heavy armors) as they deal double damage against them. This is especially important when there are heavily armored units early in the game when most units have trouble dealing with their high defense and princesses are too costly to summon.

Except for further stat growth, bandits don't typically gain meaningful abilities post-CC, and are therefore not a priority to CC.

8/2/16 Rebalance: Gained a large amount of HP and ATK. Also received a pre-awakening damage bonus vs. armored-type enemies.
